#OurAlabamaHome: Andalusia

February 02, 2017

Andalusia is the county seat of Covington County and was first settled in 1841 after flooding of the Conecuh River and the surrounding lowlands forced citizens to move to higher ground.

The history of Andalusia and Covington County are depicted around the town's downtown area with a series of murals created by artist Wes Hardin, included are murals commemorating the site where Hank and Audrey Williams were married as well as the World Championship Domino Tournament that takes place annually in July.

Also pictured is the giant white dress shirt that is located in front of the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce and is a tribute to Andalusia's textile history.

#OurAlabamaHome is AHFA's theme for 2017. We regularly take road trips to visit with customers who have bought their home or found affordable housing because of AHFA programs. As we travel to visit these customers, we're also highlighting the city or town they live in to celebrate Alabama and illustrate how AHFA's programs reach all across the state. Together, our customers' testimonials bring #OurAlabamaHome to life. Keep track of our travels on AHFA's Facebook page and here on our website.
